I have found the readings for this week's OER class to be very interesting. They discussed using open educational resources (OER) to change how you teach, and your students learn.
One of the key points discussed was how to create more meaningful assignments for students. The use of open educational resources (OER) allows instructors to adapt, modify, and create tailored assignments for their students. As a result, students could enjoy more their learning experience rather than spend many hours on assignments that, after completion, will have little value.
Currently, I am enrolled in a class that uses open educational resources, and I enjoy completing the assignments. As a result of these assignments, I have become more committed.
In my case, I am required to post once a week about what I learned through my reading. As I read, I think about the most helpful points and the value of the readings. Whenever I prepare my posts, I feel I am contributing to the discussion about OER. As a second language learner, this is not an easy task, but I enjoy it greatly.
We have also been required to make a creation to post each week. I have been working with my group on refining and editing a brand-new OER book named Light+Learning. We have found it challenging, but when we review and revise each chapter each week, we feel that we contribute to something that can be used later. This is a meaningful assignment rather than an assignment that nobody else will benefit from.
Using OER resources is just the first step toward changing the way that students are taught. Allowing students to enjoy more engaging assignments through the power of OER resources is on a higher level. It will result in a more enjoyable experience for the students, and they will be thankful for it.
